A memorandum of understanding was signed between UNDP and Toplifikacija AD-Skopje for exchange of relevant data related to electricity and energy consumption of public buildings. This data will enable municipalities to better monitor and optimize the amount of energy consumption of public buildings.
“Partnerships such as this one, open possibilities for a future where families will not have to make a choice between heating and food”, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Ms. Ann-Marie Ali stated during the signing ceremony, adding that it is important to undertake concrete steps as soon as possible to ensure efficient management of the limited sources of energy.
TheChairman of the Executive Board of Toplifikacija AD – Skopje, Dimitar Hadzi-Mishevstated that “according to expert analyses, schools and hospitals offer the greatest possibilities for energy saving. If the specific energy expenditure in public buildings is reduced, it will be possible to connect several objects to the same installation and this will result in lower investment costs and lower prices for everyone using the energy”.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding took place in the frames of the UNDP project titled “Mitigating Climate Change through Improving Energy Efficiency in the Building Sector”, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, with the financial support of the Austrian Development Agency (ADC). The main objectives of this project are to contribute to the processes of reducing the energy consumption in residential and public buildings, regulate energy losses and greenhouse gas emissions, and increase the country’s energy independence.
