Presentation of three software tools (METEONORM 6.1, RETScreen 4 and GACMO) useful for policy makers in the energy efficiency of buildings - is the main theme of the workshop held on March 4, 2011 in MANU.
The workshop was organized within the framework of the UNDP project "Mitigating climate change through improving energy efficiency in the building sector in order to present the most economical and efficient software tools for calculating the energy performance of buildings.
The workshop was attended by representatives from key institutions in this area: the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning and Energy Agency, who rated the softwares as very useful.
METEONORM 6.1 (Edition 2009) is a comprehensive meteorological reference, incorporating a catalogue of meteorological data and calculation procedures for solar applications and system design at any desired location in the world. It is based on over 24 years of experience in the development of meteorological databases for energy applications. METEONORM addresses engineers, architects, teachers, planners and anyone interested in solar energy and climatology. www.meteonorm.com/
The RETScreen Clean Energy Project Analysis Software is a unique decision support tool developed with the contribution of numerous experts from government, industry, and academia. The software, provided free-of-charge, can be used worldwide to evaluate the energy production and savings, costs, emission reductions, financial viability and risk for various types of Renewable-energy and Energy-efficient Technologies (RETs). www.retscreen.net/
GACMO (GHG costing model) is used to evaluate the costs and benefits of a wide range of mitigation options, to calculate the GHG emissions reduction, as well as the average mitigation cost expressed in US$ per ton of CO2 equivalent. It is able to combine the options in the form of an emissions reduction cost-curve, displaying the average cost of reducing GHG emissions for a number of different alternatives.
