ENERGY EFFICIENCY FOR MUNICIPALITIES

How can the municipalities better assess energy efficiency opportunities – this was the main topic of the workshop attended by representatives of all the municipalities in the country.

The workshop was organized in the frames of the UNDP Project “Mitigating Climate Change through Improving Energy Efficiency in the Building Sector”, expected to significantly contribute to the processes of reducing the energy consumption in residential and public buildings, regulate energy losses and greenhouse gas emissions, and increase the overall energy independence of the country. This project is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, with the financial support of the Austrian Development Agency.

Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Mr. Nexhati Jakupi, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Ms. Ann-Marie Ali, ZELS Executive Director, Ms. Dusica Perisic and EVN Chairman of the Management Board, Mr. Georg Waldner, officially opened the workshop.

In his opening statement, Minister Jakupi stated that this project will help mitigate one of the greatest problems of the municipalities – efficient use of energy, adding that with this approach the country will be able to make a contribution to the global efforts for combating climate change.
