PROMOTION OF ExCITE AND THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY PORTAL

Improving energy efficiency has proven to be a powerful tool when it comes to extending limited resources and reducing climate change. The current energy costs in the country make up a large share of the state and municipal budgets. Implementation of energy efficiency measures would therefore significantly lower the energy consumption and expenses, while also improving the indoor conditions in public buildings.Because investing today in the right way is investing in long term prosperity.

Representatives of municipalities on the promotion of the ExCITE software and the portal on energy efficiency on 1 July 2011, Skopje

The UNDP Energy efficiency project developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, financed by the Austrian Development Cooperation, is contributingfundamentally to the development of energy performance and climate statistics, representing the baseline for any further strategic local and national policy and investment decisions on energy efficiency in the country.

External Climate and Inventory Tool for Energy efficiency application is software that can be used for the purpose of continuous energy monitoring on local level. This is a first tool that can be served as link between the central and local government and can be used by the municipalities to fulfill the obligations of the new Law on energy.

The municipalities are main beneficiaries/user of the ExCITE software and have a critical role to play. Their commitment is key to improving energy efficiency and fighting climate change in the country. Regulating energy losses means increasing the municipal budget and though, the well-being of the citizens. General public also has limited access to the software.

But in order to develop successful measures for energy efficiency in buildings, it is important to have adequate and reliable data on the building sector and further link it with the specific climate conditions in the country. Thus, Ms. Ann-Marie Ali, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative has awardedcerticifactes of appreciation to EVN Macedonia and Toplifikacija AD for selflessly agreeing to share the data for expenses and consumption of electrical and heating energy that helped all of us to truly make a difference.

The Private Sector has an important role to play in development. Achieving synergies between the public, private and civil society sector is of crucial importance for advancing the sustainable development agenda of the country.

The promotion of the software was also used for awarding certificates to the representatives from Municipalities for completed training on use of ExCITE and granting of official access for use ofthe software.
