Sustainable Energy (GEF) Project - implemented by World bank
GEF Sustainable Energy Project is a grant in amount of 5.5 million U.S. dollars allocated by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (i.e. World Bank). The main development objective of the project is developing a sustainable market for services in the areas of energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy sources (RES) supporting the development of an appropriate environment, institutional capacity and necessary financing mechanisms.
The project is implemented by the Ministry of Economy through a special project unit, established solely for that purpose. Part of the project activities are implemented through the Macedonian Bank for Development. The project places special emphasis on energy efficiency in public buildings because:
- By investing in energy efficiency in public buildings, the Government provides a good example for investment in measures that simultaneously result in significant energy savings, saving money and promoting environmental protection, and
- Investing in energy efficiency in public buildings, the Government helps create a market for providing services in the field of energy efficiency.
The project is structured into the following three components:
- Component 1: Institutional support, technical assistance and support for project management
- Component2: Financialsupportforenergy efficiencyinpublicbuildings
- Component 3: Fund for the financing of sustainable energy - Credit line for renewable energy / energy efficiency
